Custom Built Hatch, Fitted in Birmingham

We can custom build hatches on site to fit your exact requirements. This hatch was built to size and ready for a coat of paint before we fitted the loft ladder. It enables us to be able to fit aluminium ladders in a lot more houses than being restricted to the dimensions of the UPVC hatch.

This was in a 1980's 2 bed end terrace on Birmingham, B31.

Fitting a UPVC Loft Hatch and a 3 Section Aluminium Loft Ladder in Northfield

Example of:

In a 3 bed a 1990's period semi-detached house on Beech Farm Croft, Northfields, Birmingham.

This was a simple job. The customer wanted a draft proof loft hatch that was well insulated and an easy to use lightweight loft ladder. She only wanted to use it occasionally around Christmas and holidays and so didn't want to spend a lot on it. The UPVC hatch and 3 section ladder works perfectly for every day use, or once or twice a year. At £275 supplied and fitted this was  a great choice.

Fitting a Custom Built Wooden Hatch and 3 Section Aluminium Loft Ladder in Bourneville

Here is a great example of:

In a 3 bed a 1980's period house.

This job is a good example of extending out the existing loft hatch hole in order to fitting a larger hatch to accommodate a loft ladder. The couple wanted this ladder installed because there boiler was in the loft and from experience they new that there energy supplier will not service there boiler unless there is a fix point loft ladder and loft floor boards leading to the boiler. This is for health and safely reasons. The original hatch was only 65cm/55cm which is a perfectly decent width but not an ideal length. We Custom built and fitted a hatch extending the length to 80cm making there new hatch 80cm/65cm. Perfect for a ladder leaving penalty of room for a person to climb up though with suitcases or tools.

Installing a Timber Loft Ladder, Widening Out the Aperture, Patching Ceiling Hole in Coventry

Here is a great example of:

In a 1970's period, 3 bed, semi-detached house.

This job was a classic example of fitting a larger loft ladder into a small space. The original hatch was only 65cm/65cm which is a perfectly decent width but not an ideal length. These guys wanted a large, comfy, easy to use, everyday ladder. So we settled on the LWK from Fakro. This ladder gives you plenty of room to walk up though the hatch with big items. Thanks to the design of its large flat foot steps and sturdy side rail, it makes it very easy to climb whilst holding onto your belongings. On this job we increased the length of the hatch by nearly double but reduced the width slightly. This meant that there was a hole left. In this case we patched the hole in the ceiling with an off cut of plaster board ready for decoration.

Fitting Flooring in a Loft With an Inverted Truss Roof in Broadway, The Cotswolds

Here is a great example of:

  • Boarding out a loft with 18mm P5 moisture resistant tongue & groove boards

  • Single level 100mm frame

  • Cutting out around inverted truss roof

In a 2000 period, 3 bed, semi-detached house in Broadway, The Cotswolds.

This job was a very straight forward boarding job around the trusses of a modern roof. We laid a 100mm frame to get over the spot lights on the landing.

Boarding Out Loft, Adding a Balustrade Rail and Fitting Loft Ladder in Selly Oak

Here is a great example of:

  • Boarding out a loft with 18mm P5 moisture resistant tongue & groove boards.

  • Boarding out using loft legs.

  • Adding safety balustrade rail

  • fitting 3 section aluminium loft ladder

  • fitting upvc hatch

In a new build, 2 bed, terrace house.

This job was a great example of the use of loft legs. Because the house was a new build with 270mm of insulation we put forward the idea of the loft leg system to board out a section of his loft. These loft legs allow you to board out a loft with minimal disturbance to the insulation. This is done by fixing down light weight plastic stilt legs to create a raise platform above the insulation. The owner also wanted a balustrade rail added as a safety feature.

Bespoke Hatch and Loft Ladder Fitted in Tamworth, Birmingham

Here is a great example of:

  • fitting a custom hatch in between narrow joists

  • extending hatch aperture to gain better access

  • longer hatch to accommodate ladder

  • fitting a 3 stage aluminium loft ladder

In a 1980's, 3 bed, semi-detached house on Hornbeam Road, Tamworth, Birmingham.

The owner of this property had a truss roof and did not want to cut out and brace the ceiling timbers. Instead they wanted a custom hatch built to fit in between. Because the joists were only 460mm apart there was not much room to get up though the hatch into the loft with suitcases. For this reason they asked for the hatch to be extended in length to accommodate them and a suitcase when climbing up though the hatch. We built them a custom hatch 460mm/1000mm and dissolved the architrave into the wall in order maximise the available width.

Loft Ladder in Coleshill, Birmingham

Here is a great example of:

  • Enlarging a loft aperture,

  • Installing a larger, custom built loft hatch,

  • Installing a 3 stage loft ladder

In a 1990's, 3 bed, detached house in Kendal Avenue, Coleshill, Birmingham.

This was a straight forward job of pushing back a cross beam (noggin) to square up the aperture. This was done in order to make the loft hatch wider so I could accommodate a 3 stage loft ladder at 90 degrees to the stairs. It's really important to widen out the hatch to allow yourself plenty of room for you and your belongings to easily fit though the loft opening- safely and securely.

Loft Ladder, Custom Hatch, Insulation Top Up, Boarding and Lights in Worcester

This job shows how easy it is to turn your unused loft space into a clean, safe, habitable space to store your suitcases, Christmas tree, old records, etc:

  • Boarding out a loft in Victorian terrace house

  • Raising loft floor to accommodate insulation

  • Enlarging the loft opening

  • Installing a larger custom built hatch

  • Fitting a 3 stage aluminium loft ladder

in a 3 bed, Victorian terrace house on Ostlor Drive, St John's, Worcester

This old loft space was dusty and full of rubbish and unsafe to walk on. We laid a frame across the existing ceiling joists, insulated the cavity with 100mm of Earthwool top up, laid 18mm P5 moisture resistant tongue and groove loft boards. We also fitted a fix point 3 stage loft ladder, a custom drop down loft hatch and a light.

Timber Loft Ladder Installation in Solihull, Birmingham

This is another great example of a wooden loft ladder being fitting in a modern house:

  • Widening / cutting out the plaster board ceiling

  • Fitting a timber bi-folding loft ladder

in a 5 bed, detached house with a truss roof, built in 1995 on Monkspath Hall Road, Solihull, Birmingham

This was the perfect solution for this family. They wanted a ladder the was really simple to use, lightweight with big, flat, sturdy footsteps. The ladder had to be easy to lower and stow away, feel safe and strong as they wanted to feel comfortable using it regularly. Fakro's LWK bi-folding timber loft ladder with the extra large opening 60cm/120cm was ideal for their usage.

Loft Ladder and Custom Built Hatch in Worcester

  • Installing a large, custom built loft hatch,

  • Installing a 3 stage loft ladder

In a 1990's, 2 bed bugalow on Cavendish Street, Worcester

This was a straight forward job of removing a cross beam (noggin) to square up the aperture. This was done in order to make the loft hatch wider so I could accommodate a 3 stage loft ladder. Loft Boarding, Raised Floor, Boarding Over Pipes in Warwick

This boarding job was a great example of how you can board out your loft around and over pipes safely:

  • Boarding out a loft with 18mm P5 moister resistant tongue & groove boards

  • Raising the floor level to accommodate water pipes

  • Raising loft floor level 200mm to accommodate insulation

  • Installing a UPVC loft hatch

  • Fitting a 3 stage aluminium loft ladder

in a 3 bed, semi-detached house on Claypitts Boulevard, Warwick

The couple that owned this property were concerned that they wouldn't be able to use there loft space as there were water pipes running across the ceiling level, We demonstrated how it was possible to raise the level of the loft floor to cover over the pipes safely, including leaving access points at stop taps. We also removed the tongue and groove system from every third board for quick access to any part of there loft, instead of having to pick up the entire floor in the case of an emergency which require access to the pipes. All of our boards are screwed down into place to ensure they are easy to bring back up again if needs be
