Boarding Out a Loft Around Truss Beams in Welford-on-Avon

This house had an inverted truss roof which made it difficult to use as a storage space because of all the diagonal trusses in the loft. We floated a timber frame 300mm above the exsisting ceiling to allow the insulation to sit without being squashed. Cutting out around all the trusses is a long and slow process but once complete, makes this space very usable.

Fitting a Extra Large Bi-Folding Wooden Loft Ladder in Bromsgrove

• Fitting a 70/120cm Fakro LWK timber loft ladder in a two bed terrace on Rock Hill, Bromsgrove, B61

This couple had recently moved in to a terrace house and had a lot of bulky items that needed stowing out of the way. Their existing loft hatch was small and did not have a safe fix point ladder to access the loft.

We offered to enlarge the loft hatch and install an extra large version of Fakro's premium LWK wooden bi-folding loft ladder. This way, they could keep the width of the current opening the same and increase the length without the need for any decorating after the new ladder had been installed.

The new hatch was very large at 70cm/120cm. The fix point ladder (with large flat wooden steps and a handrail) made this the perfect solution to access the loft quickly and safely.

Installing Safety Trap Door in a Loft in Stratford-Upon-Avon

It is possible to fit a hinged safety door in your loft. The idea is that when you are up in the loft you can close off the space to stop any potentially very serious accidents from happening. These guys have kids that obviously love exploring all four corners of their house and inevitably want to go in the loft when Dad goes up to get the Christmas tree! They wanted to know that they had peace of mind that when they are all up in the loft and the risk of falling out was reduced significantly by installing this door. This old loft space was dusty and full of rubbish and unsafe to walk on. We laid a frame across the existing ceiling joists, insulated the cavity with 100mm of Earthwool top up, laid 18mm P5 moisture resistant tongue and groove loft boards. We also fitted a fix point 3 stage loft ladder, a custom drop down loft hatch and a light.

This was a straight forward job of removing a cross beam (noggin) to square up the aperture. This was done in order to make the loft hatch wider so I could accommodate a 3 stage loft ladder.
